FAQ:

1. What are the hours like?

Hours do vary. You will work a minimum of 40 hours per week. Duties vary depending on the time of year and what the ranch has going on at that time. You will be involved in food prep, feeding, cleaning habitats and houses, basic upkeep of the grounds, etc. The work can be exhausting and demanding at times. Interns need to know their limitations and stress tolerance levels. Extensions beyond the 10 weeks will be considered on an individual basis.

2. How many days off do interns get?

Interns will have one-two days off per week. If you are a live on site intern, you will be able to leave the grounds on your day off. Ranch vehicle provided for day time use pending availability (day by day basis) and a review of intern’s driving record). I.E use of truck is an earned privilege awarded individually. However, vehicles are not to stay off property over night. As intern hours will include some night feedings, being off the ranch overnight, requires advanced notice to staff.

3. What type of training will be provided?

You will be involved in feeding, neonate feeding, cleaning habitats and houses, upkeep of ranch grounds, giving tours and field trip presentations, off site events, animal training and more. You will have the opportunity to learn to drive various types of equipment and to learn construction techniques. We want you to walk away from this program having learned everything you’d hoped to and more.

4. Will I be able to work with the Veterinarian?

Most of our vet work is done on site, by senior staff. As schedule permits, you may have the opportunity to assist in this work. Our veterinarian does not come out every week. He only comes out if there is a problem with one of the animals. Do not count on working with either an actual vet while here.

5. Are pets allowed?

No.

6. Are computers provided?

Wi-fi is provided.

7. Can my family and friends visit me?

Your family and friends are welcome to visit you during your internship. Advanced notice is required for all visitors. No overnight guests are allowed on-site.
